Michel Waisvisz-Pata Mayo

Dear all,
I'm sad to tell that in the night of 18 june Michel Waisvisz has passed away.
He was a visionary artist, a pioneer in electronic music, the director of the Steim institute in Amsterdam for 27 years and a wonderful man.
In Second Life he was born the 17th of june in 2007 as Pata Mayo, and it didn't take long before he got addicted and started building instruments (and picked up virtual gardening).
In october last year he did a wonderful presentation at odyssey, and v2_, the institute for the unstable media in rotterdam, about the history of physical interfaces in relation to audio, finishing with a demonstration of his first prototype instrument in SL, the patafone.
In honor and memory of Michel I put up the video of his presentation, as well as the patafone, at the dorkbot space. Feel free to watch, listen, and play the instrument!

enjoy!

You probably already heard the sad news of Michel Waisvisz' passing away, earlier this
week in his home in Amsterdam ... On monday july 14th, there will be a special edition
of Radio AligreFM's "Songs of Praise", dedicated to Michel. Part of this tribute will
consist in the live performance of a 'Cracklebox Sinfonietta', for which we intend to
bring together in the studio as many parisian crackleboxes as we can, along with their
players ...
If you are in or near Paris on july 14th, and have a 'kraakdoos', please get in touch ...
